GENESEE COUNTY, MI — A city of Burton fire truck was involved in a crash with a SUV on its way to a structure fire Saturday afternoon, officials say.

At about 2:10 p.m. Nov. 26, crews from the Burton Fire Department were heading to the scene of a reported structure fire when they passed through an intersection showing a red light at South Center Road and Lippincott Boulevard.

Burton Fire Chief Kirk Wilkinson told MLive that while one emergency vehicle was able to safely pass through the intersection, a fire engine following behind hit a SUV.

The truck had lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash, and had slowed down before crossing the intersection, Wilkinson said.

The SUV rolled over due to the impact, and received significant damage, Wilkinson said. The fire engine suffered moderate damage to its hood and front bumper.

He said no one in either vehicle was injured. The driver was the only occupant of the SUV, Wilkinson said.
