Emergency crews are working to clear the scene of a deadly crash after a fire truck overturned Thursday along Route 119 in Kanawha County.

South Charleston Police confirmed one person in a second vehicle involved in the crash has died.

Dispatchers said the crash was reported shortly after 4 p.m. near Childress Road.

Route 119 North has temporarily closed as emergency workers clear the area. Deputies expect the roadway to be closed for at least three hours and encourage drivers to avoid the area.

One firefighter was entrapped in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital, according to South Charleston Fire Chief Virgil White.

“That fire truck rolled at least one time, completely…and came to rest on its side on that mountain,” South Charleston Police Chief Brad Rinehart told Eyewitness News. “It’s very serious. I always tell people to watch for ambulances, fire trucks and police cars…I hate this happened for everyone involved.”
