The crash occurred roughly 20 miles from where firefighters are currently battling the Thompson Fire, which began Tuesday morning and has burned over 3,000 acres so far.

CHP said the fire engine had “significant damage” but that the three CAL FIRE personnel onboard were able to escape.

CHP described the firefighters’ injuries as minor to moderate and said they were taken to a hospital.

CHP said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
