No one was injured when part of a Hackensack fire truck fell into a hole overnight.
A spokesperson for the fire department tells News 4 that Engine 5 was returning from a call just after 2:30 a.m. when the right passenger side of the truck sank into the hole.
A contractor had been working in that area the day before.
The spokesperson says it appears heavy rains, and insufficient markings around the hole, were to blame for the mishap. Fire department mechanics are assessing damage to the truck and, in the meantime, it’s out of service.
The contractor refilled the hole, which is now covered with a plate to prevent a repeat of the incident.
