A firefighter has had a lucky escape after a rescue truck rolled in the State’s South West, causing only minor injuries.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services heavy rescue fire truck was travelling along South Western Highway when it rolled, about 1.30am, in Boyanup.

Police said two firefighters were inside the truck at the time of the crash, with one taken to hospital as a precaution.

The completely destroyed truck landed upside down after it had rolled, smashing all the windows and crushing parts of the back end of the vehicle.

It landed parallel on the wet road forcing parts of the highway to close while emergency services worked to clear the debris.

Red and blue flashing sirens lit up the pitch black road while a tow truck managed to flip the firetruck back on it’s wheels.

The road was blocked for some time with traffic carefully diverted around the crash zone.

A DFES spokesman said the truck was coming back from a job in Donnybrook when the incident occurred.
