An accident on Interstate 271 in Walton Hills led to police closing the north bound lanes of the interstate for several hours on Monday afternoon.
Police in Oakwood Village tell Fox 8 News the lanes were closed Monday afternoon after a tanker truck carrying gasoline slammed into the back of a Walton Hills fire truck parked along the highway. The fire truck was on scene assisting with an earlier accident along the roadway.
Authorities had closed traffic in both direction on the interstate before opening the south bound lane around 4:00 p.m.
The accident caused gasoline to leak from the tanker truck. According to authorities, 50-150 gallons of fuel was spilled onto I-271 right under the Alexander overpass. The tanker was holding approximately 8,500 gallons at the time of the accident.
According to Oakwood Village Fire Chief James Schade, no one was injured in the crash and damage to the fire truck is estimated at $100,000.
