Responding Fire Apparatus Loses Fuel Tank

-
Buffalo fire truck lost its fuel tank overnight.

The truck was on its way to a fire alarm at Buffalo State when the tank fell off in the middle of Elmwood Avenue.

More than 40 gallons of diesel fuel spilled all over the roadway.

Hazmat crews were called to prevent the gas from running into the sewer system.

They managed to soak up the fuel using kitty litter and absorbent pads.

The mess was cleaned up in around two hours and the section of Elmwood Avenue is back open this morning.

Battalion Chief Jeff Roberts said the truck was old and actually scheduled to be replaced today.
