Firefighter Trapped: Fallen power line traps New Jersey firefighter

The Leonia Fire Department (LFD) had a "close call" Jan. 25 when a power line fell on Ladder 1 truck, leaving one of the firefighters trapped inside.

The truck was responding to one of several calls for downed power lines on the road when a tree branch snapped and fell on top of the fire truck along with a power line at the intersection of Woodridge Place and Wood Terrace near Broad Avenue.

"We left the man inside the truck until PSE&G [Public Service Electric and Gas] came and disconnected the power so that they could get out safely," said 26-year firefighter and now Chief Troy Wright, who was just promoted in January.
Although no one was injured, two roof ladders were crushed by the tree branch.

Wright doesn’t know what it will cost to replace the ladders. They were sent for estimates, but the ladders are covered by the Borough’s insurance policy.

Multiple tree fallings and downed power lines were attributed to an unusually warm front that brought a storm with high winds and rain.
Several homes in the area fell victim to the storm that toppled aging trees onto homes in Fort Lee on Anderson Avenue and McElroy Avenue.
Several homes were left in the dark until PSE&G restored power.
