EMERGENCY VEHICLE OPERATIONS



Michael Wilbur
has been a career firefighter with the New York City Fire Department for 21 years, and is also a volunteer firefighter.

In FDNY, Mike was assigned to Ladder Company 56 for 15 years 8 as an apparatus operator and in 1995 was promoted to the rank of Lt. and is presently assigned to Ladder Company 27 in the Bronx.

Lt. Wilbur also serves on the FDNY apparatus purchasing committee, and has given state certification to the FDNY chauffeurs school.

Mike is also a contributing editor for Firehouse Magazine and Fire Apparatus Journal.

He has also served on the IFSTA validation committees for the Apparatus Operator and Aerial Operator Manuals.

Lt. Wilbur in nationally recognized in Emergency Vehicle Operations, Apparatus Placement and Purchasing.

This Course will identify causes associated with fire apparatus accidents through N.F.P.A. Statistics and case studies. An over view of your states Vehicle and Traffic Law will also be covered. Other topics included in this Course are intersection safety, railroad crossing safety and driving while intoxicated. Creating a driver training program, and writing standard operating guidelines.

Students will also be able to participate in hands on training on your apparatus.

Engineers, potential Engineers, Drivers and potential Drivers would be excellent candidates to take this course. Company and Chief Officer's would also benefit greatly by attending this course.

Attendee's of the Emergency Vehicle Operators Course will have a greater understanding of Vehicle and Traffic Laws and their rights and obligations under the law. Drivers will have a heightened awareness of their responsibilities and the liabilities when they drive. Company and Chief Officer's will have an outline of a driver training program and will have the ability to write comprehensive Standard Operating Guidelines.
